Helix Nebula
The Helix planetary nebula is one of the largest apparent planetary nebula which makes it attractive for me to photograph. It is also one of the closest to Earth it is only about 700 light years away. It is however more difficult to pick up in a telescope. With my 12" Dob I can just pick it up in a dark site location with my OIII or H-beta filter. The first time I tried looking for this, I was using my 120x lens and I could see the Saturn nebula which was close by but not the Helix. Then Larue who is in the Pocatello Astronomy Club said she found it so I looked and sure enough there it was but very large and dim so I asked what lens she was using and it was around 60x so I changed out lenses to my 26mm which gave me around 60x. I moved my telescope back to the location where the Helix is located and there it was. This object can be found in the constellation Aquarius in the southern part which makes it difficult to capture. I
worked on this Friday night and I only got about 1 hours worth of data because I was fighting clouds and I only had about 4 hour window that I could capture it. So here is the result of 1 hour and clouds. I will have to revisit this in the future.
